REWEAVING OUR
NEIGHBORHOODS TOGETHER
Thanks to everyone who attended Redesign's
Annual Meeting on January 24th 2008. Our
theme, "Reweaving Our Neighborhoods
Together," refers to the many threads that come
together in community development.
For highlights of the panel discussion on 'The
Benefits of Neighborhood CDCs,' please read
this feature in The Bridge online newspaper.
To serve as an inspiring symbol of many threads combined in a
harmonious whole, Redesign purchased the weaving pictured at left.
It is an example of traditional Somali twined weaving entitled "Dunta
Bulshada iskuzirta" (Threads of Community).
Twined weavings have been used for centuries in Somalia for baskets,
bags, rugs, as decorations for homes and as saddles for camels and
horses. Last fall, Augsburg College showed a spectacular selection of
weavings that were created at the East African Women's Center.
