PROJECTS

Housing 2008

General Comments:

  • I'm very happy in STE -price is right and only one group of inebriated in six years.

  • I think that we should identify a priority area and use NRP funds to rehab houses.

  • We need innovative, intergenerational housing.

  • Seward needs more housing variety.

  • First-time homebuyer workshops are needed for the East African community. Is Reba financing available? Additionally, three to four bedroom homes are needed.

  • Housing development such as condos and townhomes is needed along the Midtown Greenway where there is currently light industrial and empty lots.

  • Rehab boarded buildings.

  • Downsizing seniors need smaller homes in the community in which to live, thereby freeing up larger homes.

  • We have affordable apartments but affordable multi-bedroom houses?

  • The previous NRP housing programs were very useful.

  • The best housing (policy encompasses) a wide range of housing types and prices. Some very old houses are unrepairable and probably not livable.

  • We need NRP grants to fix up housing in South Seward and stop the deterioration that is so evident.

  • We need educational programs about LEED standards, energy conservation and other sustainability measures to deal with toxicity in homes.

  • We need more senior housing for aging boomers, though not high rises. Buildings should have some retail and different types of units within: multiuse. Condos or townhomes are preferred such as the new building at the corner of E. Lake and W. River Pkwy, that houses Dunn Bros. and the Hiawatha Grill: a building with life and excitement.

  • Highrise living for seniors and families combined under one roof is not working. Seniors need their own housing communities. High rise life for families is not working. We need quality affordable housing. The type of housing in the highrises is called warehousing which is no good in the 21st century. You wouldn't want your mom and sisters with kids to live in a warehouse.

  • There should be a cap on market rate rents in Seward and a cap on home prices in Seward.

  • STE and STW residents should have preferential treatment to buy homes in the Seward neighborhood. Home ownership should be more diverse in Seward. There should be special homeownership programs for STE and STW residents to buy homes exclusively in Seward. This is our home! Why should we leave?
