PROJECTS
South |
Early in 2008, Seward Redesign, Seward Neighborhood Group (SNG), and Seward Civic and Commerce Association (SCCA) launched a community-driven process to re-envision the future of Franklin Avenue from the LRT station to the Mississippi River. Along with CITYDESKSTUDIO, Inc., a local architecture/design firm, we have been engaged in an intense and interactive process that allows us - as a community - to start testing projects on Franklin Avenue this summer!
Task Forces helped draft core values for the neighborhood and Franklin Avenue, and shaped the primary project areas shown in the Draft Community Vision for Franklin Avenue - Crossing, Wayfinding, Greening and Biking. CITYDESKSTUDIO helped us envision this work first with concept diagrams, and then with a series of vignettes using photographs of the existing street to help us see how strategies we developed could transform Franklin Avenue. The process we have been using speaks to a value which we intend to guide our work - we will work in partnership, maintaining a transparent public process, which is rational and balances the interests and needs of various constituents. Planning is never complete but rather an ongoing process, which we will continually revisit and renew. For the latest info on what's going on, see the Franklin Avenue Blog or read the task force newsletters below.
